Over 100 million users, comprising at minimum 15 million minors, presently utilize e-cigarettes, fueling a new surge of nicotine habit, as stated by latest global medical reports.

Minors are, on average, nine times more inclined than mature individuals to vape, based on current worldwide statistics.

Electronic cigarettes are driving a "new wave" of nicotine addiction, remarked a prominent health official. "They are advertised as harm reduction but, in reality, are hooking youth on nicotine earlier and threaten compromising years of progress."

Teens Being 'Targeted'

"Countless of individuals are ceasing, or refraining from tobacco consumption thanks to tobacco regulation initiatives by states across the world," he commented.

"As a reaction to this significant improvement, the tobacco sector is fighting back with novel nicotine products, forcefully targeting adolescents. Authorities must take action more rapidly and more forcefully in implementing established tobacco-control policies," he further stated.

The e-cigarette numbers are an estimate since several countries - 109 in all, and many in African and South-East Asia - fail to collect information.

According to the report, as of recent February this period, at least 86 million e-cigarette consumers were adults, mainly in high-income states.

And at minimum 15 million adolescents between the ages of 13 and 15 already use e-cigarettes, according to surveys from 123 states.

Even though several states have tried to implement e-cigarette regulations to combat child vaping in recent years, by the conclusion of 2024, 62 nations yet had no policy in operation, and 74 nations had no age restriction at which e-cigarettes can be purchased, states the medical organization.

Meanwhile, tobacco use has been decreasing - from an estimated 1.38 billion consumers in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Prevalence of tobacco use among females dropped the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

For men, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But 20% of mature individuals internationally yet uses tobacco.

Smoking is associated to numerous illnesses, including cancer.

Professionals say vaping is far less damaging than tobacco products, and can help you quit smoking. It is advised against for individuals who avoid tobacco.

E-cigarettes do not burn tobacco and do not create tar or toxic gas, two of the most dangerous elements in tobacco fumes. They have nicotine, which may be habit-forming.
