Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive season.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She received nearly 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
