The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.

However, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
