Edwards and O'Neil represent the early candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the team's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton manager - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club board as they begin the process of appointing a new manager.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising appointment considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is out of work meaning the club would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
