Liverpool Will Not Change Forward-Thinking Philosophy Despite Poor Run of Form, Declares Arne Slot

Arne Slot has stated that the club's hierarchy share his views regarding the poor performance streak and he refuses to compromise their forward-thinking philosophy in quest for a turnaround. The head coach conceded that six unsuccessful results in seven outings was not good enough ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Pressure Mounting Throughout Tough Spell

The manager acknowledged the pressure was on before his makeshift team were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he insisted that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the club's ownership or football administration following a significant spending of almost £450m.

"Our views align," commented Slot, whose team next week face the Spanish giants in the Champions League and play against Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League.

Team Strength Remains Undoubted

The coach is convinced his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are completely available and fully prepared for the programme we are facing". He mentioned that the summer investment in players such as the German international and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against the Birmingham club through physical problems, had left the club "in a strong situation for the near future and the long-term future".

Team Cohesion Issues

When questioned about why his team were struggling to integrate, he responded: "You don't really help me. 'What's causing this?' I give an explanation and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify five or six reasons why we are struggling for victories or suffering defeats as we do but, as I say every time, there are insufficient justifications to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • No matter if I could identify multiple factors
  • When you are Liverpool you must avoid losses
  • In truth six defeats in seven games

Backline Performance

Only Burnley (21) have faced more big chances from open play this season than Slot's team (19). The league leaders, the Gunners, have faced two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and maintains there is no justification to compromise forward-thinking approach for a more pragmatic style after ten matches without a shutout.

"In my view we're not giving up numerous openings so I don't see a reason to change our playing style entirely but we must improve in keeping clean sheets," he said.

Specific Instances

"Versus the Red Devils, how many openings did we give up? When playing Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we scarcely gave up a effort at our net. In each fixture we have competed in we haven't conceded a many opportunities. Definitely not. We do concede a slightly more than the previous campaign but that is related to us being 1-0 down so you take a bit more risk. But typically I don't think that our problem is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we don't score the chances we create."
