American flight controllers are more and more seeking additional employment and calling in sick, as they remain on duty without pay amid the government shutdown, the transport chief has stated.

"The controllers are wearing thin," Sean Duffy told a news outlet on Sunday, as certain aircraft were grounded on the California shoreline due to personnel deficits.

Following the federal closure on October 1st, air traffic controllers, who are deemed essential workers, were told to keep doing their jobs without pay.
