A top Russian Military Official Killed in the Russian Capital Incident, Officials Confirm.
Official Source
A senior Russian army officer has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to official statements.
The incident occurred on Monday morning when an bomb placed beneath a vehicle detonated, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
Investigators indicated that one line of inquiry suggests the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has remained silent.
Scene of the Incident
Teams have been dispatched to the scene, which is said to be in a southern district of the capital.
Accounts state the explosion took place in a vehicle lot adjacent to a residential building.
Pattern of Incidents
Since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military personnel have been targeted within Moscow.
This latest event echoes other serious incidents, for instance:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a device placed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a Ukrainian source previously attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are not formally acknowledged as a matter of policy.
The war has witnessed shadowy operations extending into the center of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death remains ongoing.
